Peniche lies on a peninsula with a perimeter of approximately 6 miles.
Cabo Carvoeiro constitutes the western part of it.
The coastline is shaped by majestic reefs and magnificent bath beaches of great extension, stretching over the ocean in a constant display of astonishing effects that amaze the visitors eyes.
Off Peniche, we can find the Berlenga Archipelago, if we look over the Atlantic Ocean, at the western part.
Peniche is a zone of great natural beauty and an amazing landscape, with a vast patrimony,
both cultural and religious.
From the magnificent beaches of the entire coast, perfect to practicing water sports,
to the majestic cultural patrimony, with outstanding blockhouses and religious monuments,
Peniche presents a diversity of tourist resources including a rich and varied gastronomy
with recipes of fish and shellfish, and a diversified craftwork, featuring the famous “Trimmed Lace“.
The peninsula of Peniche is called The Wave Capital of Portugal and the reason is that it offers
off-shore winds every day. Peniche has two coastlines, one facing north,
where the waves are easier to surf, and another one facing south,
where the waves are more powerful, like Supertubos or Molho Leste.
So in a range of 10 Km you will find more than 20 waves for all levels of surf.
